    Zeitbrechung - Time refraction

In Zeitbrechung Pachler introduces images and sculptures relating to different historical time periods.

Using mirrors in parts of the installation she investigates this material and its properties of refraction/reflection. Turning the mirrors away from us and concentration on minor interventions on the back side - scratching her way back to the reflecting surface through layers of paint - she emphasizes the turning away from the common idea about the uses of mirrors. She creates images that are not mirrored but refracted back to us.

The installation of 34 black clay ships called : “In her command sailed 34 black hollow vessels.” recalls a phrase in Homer’s Iliad about Achaean warships sailing to Troy. The phrase originally was written as: “In his command…. “ In choosing to change the gender in the poem Pachler moves these ancient histories more to the forefront of todays events, refracting questions of gender, time and war.

Works on paper and acrylic that are shown, are based on photographic images collected during her residency at the villa Wittgenstein in Austria. They recall baroque interiors and sculptures that - through the process of screen print -have been altered and changed into todays images of another time in history.

Combining these individual work elements in the gallery space is an expansion of perspective angles of histories and time into the current moment.

The exhibition will open at 5. Gallery on May 4th 2018 with an opening reception from 5PM to 8PM. It will be on view until 30th of June 2018.
